Worldcon thoughts
Having just gone through a week of commuting to USENIX, I’m now thinking ahead a bit to Worldcon.
It’s a mixed blessing having something like this come to town; I figure that I can go because I don’t have to pay travel or hotel expenses, but am I really there in the same way?
The contrast is more clear to me with USENIX since I have been to lots of those in other cities…my only Worldcon was 1989, the last time it was local.
I suppose half a loaf (or con) is still better than nothing at all, and one of the big draws of both USENIX and Worldcon for me is the chance to see folks I want to see…and that can happen in Boston as easily as in San Antonio or Toronto.
