Worldcon: Thursday
I had already booked two days off work, and even with a stop en route got to the Hynes at about 0940. I picked up my badge in the nicely efficient registration area, then headed to the Sheraton lobby to meet Mary Kay Kare so we could do some shopping for goodies for the LiveJournal/blogger party that night.
I went to get the Zipcar, which turned out to be a bit of a scavenger hunt puzzle; I found it in an alley, got it going, and found that I was on a one-way street going the wrong way to get back to the hotel. Right, now I remember why I don’t drive in this city normally. I drove around bemusedly for a little bit until I hit Boylston and knew where I was; I quickly got to the hotel, picked up MKK, and off we went.
A pass through Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s to get supplies, back to the hotel, and return the car to its home. I puttered around the ConCourse for a while, then went to the 1300 “Did We Win? SF and its Takeover of Popular Culture” panel.
The panel was fun (any time I think “it’s over? but didn’t it just start?” is usually a good sign), but I didn’t take any notes, so no details here. Move along.
I checked my email and had heard from some folks I’d wanted to meet; we got together and went for a late lunch at Marché Mövenpick. Afterwards, we headed up to the MIT Museum, since I could get a guest in free; that was a big hit and took care of the rest of the afternoon. We headed back, I checked out the First Night preparations, and then headed off to a pre-planned dinner.
Back from dinner and to First Night. Bouncy castle! Terry on Trial! Way too much other stuff to ever see it all! I didn’t even try for the ticket-based stuff, and I’m sure I missed a ton of fun things (in particular, the Ask Dr. Mike panel) but I still enjoyed it immensely. Well done, and many thanks to Leslie and crew.
I headed upstairs to the LiveJournal/blogger party. It was much more crowded than the @-party that I went to at Noreascon 3…but it gave me a chance to meet/greet many folks I had previously only known online. (Sadly, between the crowd and time constraints I didn’t get as much time as I would have liked to talk to everyone; some people I did catch up with later during the con, but not all.)
Eventually I hit my energy limit and walked homeward, since the bus frequency was low enough that I didn’t want to wait. Naturally, it passed me on the bridge at about 190 Smoots.

I’m still jealous of the bouncy castle!
